Relevant details when seeking out technical assistance with your recoding setup

RECAP is a universal audio adapter, so there are literally over a million possible recording setups out there. If you're experiencing recording issues and seek help, simply saying "it does not work" won't get you too far. So here's a list of questions you can answer when seeking out assistance. 


YOUR SETUP:

BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING:

If recording to Digital Voice Recorder (DVR):

  • Verified the user manual mentions "external stereo microphone" support?  (yes, no)
  • Enabled "external stereo microphone" as indicated in the user manual? (yes, no)
  • Installed fresh batteries in the DVR? (yes, no)
  • Tested the DVR with another external stereo mic? (yes, no)


If a computer (Windows, Mac OS, Linux):

  • I'm using Audacity and have read their recording setup? (yes, no)
  • I have the correct audio interface selected in the OS and the recording app. [win] [mac]? (yes, no)
  • I have set up the recording level & boost [win]? (yes, no)
  • I have disabled audio interface enhancements? [win] (yes, no)
  • Verified Audacity recording settings -  Device Toolbar and Devices Preferences. (yes, no)
  • Reboot the computer, disconnected everything, and tried again? (yes, no)

Extra information that would help

  • Attach photos of your recording setup - have another pair of eyes validating your setup
  • Attach a screenshot of waveforms - see example waveform
  • Attach a screenshot of the Audacity recording settings ( Device Toolbar or Devices Preferences.)
  • Attach a sample call recording  - much better, than saying "I think the call is faint, is that normal?"
